Matthew James Collins holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Glasgow and a BSc in Zoology with Marine Zoology from UCNW, Wales, He is a professor with dual affiliations: 50% at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and 50% P at the University of Cambrige, UK. His scholarly focus spans the fields of archaeology, biogeochemistry, and palaeoproteomics. Over the years, he has initiated and led various international research projects. For more than a decade he has turned his head to the study of parchment, as an extension of his interest in ancient proteins and in livestock management.
